Siem Reap to Kampong Thom
SS 147.91km, liaison 178.00km, Total 325.91km
Yesterday we enter Cambodia straight to Siem Reap small town for the night. The day we started with our convoy heading to 12 century historic Angkor Wat site, a place were AXCR holds many wonderful memories there, including holding the closing ceremony there before.
Angkor Thom is known for its four famous gates, decorated with buddha going back centuries. Driving through these gates with your own car its a dream come true for many, now with rally race 2 wheels, 3 wheels sidecar and 4 wheels Auto of total 50 plus vehicles convoy, its a movie scene come true to life.
Todays SS only set at 147.91km, but just 20km into the SS, both 2 wheels and 4 wheels are getting stock left and right. The area everyone getting stuck are nicknames “waterbed", its a common site to see in Cambodia or Laos, which is a water run off area between the farm land and the road. Obviously when waterbed are full of water, you are in for a long struggle to roll out off that bed.
Some sections you see riders getting off their stall bike, into waist deep waters. 4 wheels are not having any easier time by any means.
1st: #10 Koun PHANDARA (KTM 450EXL) Cambodia native with steady peace to finish top on this LEG.
2nd: #2 Yoshio IKEMACHI FB Team international (JPN, KTM EXC-R).
3rd: #21 Daravuth CHAN (Suzuki RMX450Z) Another Cambodia Native.
The waterbed had caused many riders to either retire or time over in this SS. For those whom had went through the waterbed, most enter the waterbed really slowly, while could not feel the ground, and doing all they can not to stall their bikes, but the engines are getting close to being submerge. Started with 27 riders and 9 of them took 9 1/2 hours penalty at the end.
The biggest change is #2 Yoshio IKEMACHI FB Team international, whom now is just 12 minits behind in second place, while pulling away some one hour plus ahead of third place. Over the past 2 years he been chasing the champion #1 Jakkrit, its exciting to see him closing up the gap to be in the winning contender yet again!
4th and 5th are riders from Australia #23 Dawson Grant EDWARD (KTM 350EXC-F) & #22 Taylor Bradley JON (KTM 350EXC-F) showing they are strong in the wet conditions.
Four wheels have some shuffling done by the waterbed as well. Up until the second day, #114 Mana / Kittisak (Toyota HILUX Toyota Cross Country Team Thailand) was only 12 minits behind the last year champion Natthaphon Isuzu D-Max. Now they are drop back to 5th due to their unfortunate situation getting stock in the deep waterbed, some 1 hour 52 minits back.
TRD #103 Jaras / Chupong (Toyota HILUX) was in 3rd position, but now drop painfully back to 12th, as they encounter a flat tire at 10km and worsen by front break failures at 40 km which have them stranded with issues.
Last year champion Isuzu The Land Transport Association of Thailand #101 Natthaphon / Peerapong, continue to show its dominant force in taking the daily lead. #108 Sirichai / Prakob (Isuzu D-MAX) #105 Wongwirot / Thanyapat (Isuzu D-MAX) moving up quite nicely to overall 3rd and 4th place, becoming the wing mans for the champion.
Steadily maintaining at 2nd overall #112 Mitsubishi Triton Sakaew King Off Road Isuzu Team Chamnan / Chonlanat (THA).
Today daily 3rd finish today is #107 TEAM JAOS, NOTO / TANAKA (JPN, Toyota HILUX) have the biggest gain from position 23th up to 10th.
Overall 9th ranking Garage Monchi & Micchi #110 TAKENO / MICHIHATA (JPN, Suzuki Jimny) whom had experience many troubles from the start, but its able to finish within the maximum time today, to avoid the max penalty lost time.
Tomorrow heading to Kampong Cham for LEG5 with 133.33 km SS. Last LEG6 23.32km is the shortest SS, but it is in this years biggest mountain.
